How to properly care for your hat
Hats are more than just an accessory—they protect us from the weather and add style to our outfits. Taking care of your hats helps them last longer and keeps them looking their best. Here are some easy tips for different types of hats.
Wool Winter Hats
Wool hats keep you warm in cold weather, but they can shrink if washed the wrong way. Hand wash them gently in cool water with mild soap. Never put them in the dryer—lay them flat on a towel to air dry.
Fedoras
Fedoras are stylish but need careful handling. Always pick up your fedora by the brim, not the crown, to avoid dents. Store it on a hat stand or upside down on the crown so it keeps its shape. Brush off dust with a soft brush.
If your fedora encounters a stain which needs a bit more than a soft brush, spot-clean using a barely damp cloth and mild soap. We do not ever recommend throwing fedoras in the washing machine, as it will damage the integrity of the hat.
Baseball Caps
Baseball caps are easy to clean. Spot clean stains with warm water and gentle soap. If your cap is really dirty, use a cap washer frame in the dishwasher or washing machine. Let it air dry to keep its shape.
Sun Hats
Sun hats often come in straw or fabric. Keep straw hats away from water since they can warp. Instead, wipe them with a damp cloth. Fabric sun hats can usually be hand washed. Store them in a cool, dry place.
Beanies
Beanies are cozy and stretchy. To prevent them from getting loose, wash them in cold water and lay flat to dry. Avoid hanging them up, since this can stretch out the fabric.
Taking just a few minutes to care for your hats can make them last for years while still looking great.
